Select Report Fields

This report is initially populated with four columns, three for ethnicity and one for gender. When you generate the report, you can select any of the fields with demographic information in the drop-down list.

Below, we describe some of the frequently used and less intuitive columns. The Wiki data dictionary has descriptions of all columns.

  • There are 16 unique values for self-reported ethnicity data for students. These values roll up into a nine-value summary and a four-value summary.

  • Gender

  • Entry Status Desc indicates how a student was admitted to UC Berkeley.  The most common entry statuses for undergraduates are "New Freshmen" (students who enter directly from high school) and "Advanced Standing" (students who transfer from other institutions).

  • Derived Residency Desc: Description indicating official residency status from Campus Solutions regardless of whether the student pays in-state tuition or Nonresident Supplemental Tuition. Values include: CA Resident, Out of State Domestic, International, and Unknown.

  • Reporting Clg School Short Nm

  • Academic Division Short Nm

  • Academic Department Short Nm

  • Major Short Nm

  • Degree Desc

3. We need to filter the results on one level of ethnicity data and gender. Since we do not need Ucb Level2 Ethnic Rollup Desc or Short Ethnic Desc, we can exclude these columns. Move your mouse over the column heading, right-click, and select Exclude column.

4. To answer our question, we need to filter on Ucb Level1 Ethnic Rollup Desc and Gender Desc. To filter on a column in a results set, you can move it to Prompts. Then you may select one value from the drop-down list.

5. Move your mouse to the Gender Desc column heading and right-click.
