The year in which financial aid was awarded or a student financial transaction took place. It includes Fall and Spring academic terms, with the trailing Summer.

Semester

This is the description of the semester: “Fall”, “Spring”, or “Summer”.

Undergrad/Grad

This indicates whether a student is an undergraduate or a graduate student.

Derived Residency

Derived residency combines official residency and citizenship to indicate if a student is International, Out of State Domestic, or a California Resident.

Education Level

This is the academic level of an undergraduate (freshman, sophomore, etc.) or graduate student (masters, doctoral advanced to candidacy, etc.). For undergrads, this is based on total units completed, including those earned through exams.

Registration Eligibility Status

This indicates a student’s registration eligibility status: New, Continuing, Returning, or Visitor.

Entry Status

This status indicates how a student was admitted to the university. Undergraduates, for example, are typically admitted as New Freshmen or Advanced Standing (transfers). Graduate students are typically admitted as First Time in Program, although a small number are Advanced Standing (transfers).

Dependency Status

This indicates whether the student is classified as a dependent or independent.

Family Income Range

Annual family income includes gross earned and untaxed income (e.g. Social Security).

If the student is independent then this income is the student's household income. If the student is a dependent then this income is the sum of student and parent household income.

College/School/Division/Department/Major

This is the academic unit that administers a given major degree program.
