Academic Plan Counts Report

Academic Plan provides more information than major. It includes multiple degree options and Plan Types. Plan Type indicates whether a given academic plan is a regular academic or professional major, an undergraduate specialization, a health sciences major, a self-supporting major, or a graduate certificate. Plan type is particularly valuable for analysis of graduate students where there may be multiple degree options for a major.

This report provides access to a customizable table of census and end-of-term counts within academic plans, by semester, student level, academic program, academic plan type, tuition residency, degree offered, plan CIP code, and campus unit. You can choose to display either headcounts or prorated counts for  multiple majors.

We describe the frequently used and less intuitive columns here. The Wiki data dictionary has descriptions of all columns.

  • Snapshot indicates whether data was captured on the official census date (the 5th Saturday following the start of instruction for Fall and Spring; or the 2nd Saturday following the start of instruction for each Summer session) or at the end of the term.  This field is also sometimes referred to by its database field name, Exclude Sb Week Desc.
  • Census Status Cd indicates whether a student was counted in the official campus census (a value of "CEN") or registered too late to be included in the census (a value of "TL").  Since the campus began dropping students for nonpayment of fees in Fall 2016, the "TL" value will appear only in extremely rare cases from that point forward.
  • Academic Program indicates the college or school of the student's major/academic plan for undergraduates.  For graduate and Law students, Academic Program indicates whether the student's major/academic plan is a professional (PDST) program with supplemental tuition, a regular academic program, a self-supporting program, or a non-degree program.
  • Plan Type indicates whether a given academic plan is a regular academic or professional major, an undergraduate specialization, a health sciences major, a self-supporting major, or a graduate certificate.
  • Residency Fee Desc shows a student's tuition residency value.  For tuition purposes, a student may be considered a California resident or a nonresident.  A student may also have a Pending value in this field if they are in the process of determining residency, or an Unknown/blank value if they are in a program that doesn't need to determine residency for tuition purposes.
