This session provides an update on the Cal Answers Financials project, a demo of the dashboards released to date, and an opportunity to give feedback on using the tool and ask questions of the presenters.

The Cal Answers Financials project consists of a series of releases, designed to transition reporting from BAIRS to Cal Answers by the end of 2018. The dashboards have standard views that allow you to filter, include, exclude, and move columns on the fly; save your customizations; and easily share customizations with a bookmark link. You no longer have to navigate a sea of reports that are essentially the same except for the ordering of the columns. The dashboards released so far include:

  • Financial Management reporting - Provides management reporting in financial statement signage that is great for sharing with decision-makers and non-finance stakeholders. Interactive financial reports that drill from summarized information down to transaction details.
  • Gift and Endowment reporting - Reports that help units understand what gifts and endowments they have available and how they can use these funds.
  • Human Resources reporting - Replaces highly used HR BAIRS reports with additional information and improved capabilities, as well as synthesizing a list of old reports into just a few key dashboards that can be adjusted to include or exclude information as needed.
  • General Ledger reporting - Replaces the GL summary and detail reports in BAIRS, for all levels of general ledger analysis.  Use this dashboard for day-to-day reconciliation with the BFS source system, tracking of seasonal activities by accounting period, access to data in asset and liability accounts, information on non-current funds and more, all using accounting (debit/credit) signage.
