Exercise 2 – Customize a Report
In this exercise, you will:
- Add a column to the results
- Move a column within the table
- Move a column to become a prompt
Exercise
1. The starting point for this exercise is the Job Data As of Date report. In Exercise 1 you made this report a Favorite. Open the Favorites menu in the upper right corner of the window and select Job Data As of Date.
2. Select your Parent Org Node Code.
3. Select 9: Academic – Faculty from Employee Class – Desc.
4. Select 010 = PROFESSIONAL-TENURE from CTO Code – Desc.
5. Select Apply to generate the report.
6. Scroll to the bottom of the report and select the Display maximum rows per page button to see the number of rows in the report.
7. The report provides lots of good information, but it does not include email for the faculty. The good news is that you can add columns to the report.
8. Right-click on the column heading to the right of where you want to include the email address and select Include Column.
10. Select Business Email Address from the list.
11. The report looks pretty good, but you decide that you’d prefer to have Business Email Address a little further to the right. Right-click on the Business Email Address heading and select Move Column. Then Select Right.
12. If you want to move a column several times, you can move the mouse above the column heading. When you see a four-headed arrow, hold the mouse button and drag. The light blue column shows where the column will go when you release the mouse button. Check out the video, Changes You Can Make to Tables, to see a demo.
13. Since there are several employees, it would be helpful to be able to look at one Org Node at a time. You can do this by moving the Org Node column to Prompts. Right-click on the Org Node column heading and select Move Column. Then select To Prompts.
14. Now you can select one Org Node from the drop-down list above the report.
15. You decide that Org Node works better in the report before you moved it to prompts. To move a column back to the report, move the mouse button to the column heading and select Move Column. Then select To Columns.
