Students can earn multiple degrees, so this report uses data views to present either the number of students that were awarded degrees or the number of degrees awarded.
Data Views
- Headcount Degree Recipients shows the number of students receiving degrees
- Prorated Degrees Awarded shows the number of degrees awarded. See Degrees Earned Dashboard for a description of how proration works in this dashboard.
Drill Down
The links in the Campus Unit column allow you to drill down to these levels:
- Campus Unit
- Reporting Clg Short Nm (college or school)
- Academic Division Short Nm
- Academic Department Short Nm
- Major Short Nm
Once you have drilled down, you may want to return to a more summarized view. Do not use the Back button on the browser; this will close the Cal Answers report. Instead, scroll down to the bottom of the report below the row display buttons and select Back from the links in the lower left corner. Back takes you back on step. Return collapses all of the columns so that only Campus Unit is displayed.
Sample Questions and Answers

Select the last three years in the prompts and Apply.
In the report, click the All link in the Bachelor’s degree row to display the colleges and schools.
Continue drilling down until your display includes the Major Short Nm column. We can see that 25, 27, and 26 people received degrees in the Comparative Literature major in the academic years 2020-21 2021-22, and 2022-23.
How many prorated degrees were awarded for the Comparative Literature major for those three years? Note: individual students can earn multiple degrees. Thus, this question is different from the previous one.
Select Prorated Degrees Awarded Table from the Select Data View drop-down list to see the number of prorated degrees awarded.
